Revelation 1:19; Write the Things

Revelation 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

The Book of Revelation is outlined here for us. The things which thou hast seen are recorded in Revelation chapter one. John saw His exalted Master and Saviour in glory. “The things which are” gives the state of the 7 churches listed earlier which is recorded in Revelation 2-3 as seen by the Great Physician, our Lord Jesus Christ. He gives the diagnosis and cure. “The things which shall be hereafter” describes the future events impacting the world when Jesus returns as Judge and the ushering in of the new heavens and the new earth. This earth will be destroyed.

There is ample warning provided for God’s people so that they choose to be overcomers, doing the goodwill of God for their eternal blessings. For a driver on the road, he is told of a redlight camera and a speed detection camera ahead. If he takes heed, and not beat the red light or surpass the speed limit, he is protected from demerit points and a hefty fine. Why was the warning given? So that drivers will drive safely for their own sakes and for other road users. By abiding in traffic laws, we get to our desired destination without suffering losses.

The Book of Revelation provides a scenario of judgment, punishment for man, who violated the laws of God. It impacts the entire universe. Why is it so drastic, you may ask? This is because human beings only are made in the image of God, and his violations are in a direct affront against God, our Lord Jesus Christ, Who is sustaining his very life. When God made the universe, the earth was the focus. When God made the earth, man was the focus. God made a most habitable earth before He placed man to have dominion over it and enjoy the paradise He made for them and enjoy His company with them. But because man sinned and paradise was lost, therefore, God had to provide Jesus Christ to redeem sinful men. This offer of forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ and the escape of God’s judgment in death and hell will be spurned by a group of earthlings who reject God’s offer of salvation. This text describes the judgment to come and the restoration of paradise for those who choose to repent of their sins and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God. May the Lord use His people, awakened of their souls’ perils, to awaken others to their perils and make peace with their Creator God, Jesus Christ. Amen.
