Baptism of Mr Tang Kok Kwan

Thank God for the baptism of Mr Tang Kok Kwan (husband of Mdm Peh Choo Pun and father of Jonathan Tang Meng Wei)  on 26 September 2019. He suffered a haemorrhage stroke on Friday – 13 September and was sent to the Sengkang General Hospital for treatment. Under normal circumstances he would require three operations to treat his condition. Due to his health condition and age, there was no operation.

Our brother Jonathan himself suffered a haemorrhage stroke five years ago and underwent these operations. I recalled a portion of his skull was removed for the operation and later he had to bear the pain of putting a metal cap to replace that portion of skull removed, in a painful process of stapling. Thank God he has recovered well enough to continue normal work and driving. As a result of his stroke, by the providence of God, Jonathan’s family consisting of his wife, Jacqueline, and two children Jovan and Janelle and mother Mdm. Peh came to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Tang family were baptised by our late Pastoral Advisor Rev Dr Tow Siang Hwa in 2014.

Jonathan’s father, Mr Tang Kok Kwan, however, did not follow the family to come to church although he had been to church in his younger days. I recall there was a visitation made to Jonathan’s home where my wife and I had the opportunity to witness to Mr Tang, before he had to stay in a nursing home due to his medical condition about 3 years ago.

My next visitation with Mr Tang was in the Sengkang General Hospital after the stroke happened on 14 September Saturday at 6.30pm. The family’s desire was that he will accept Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour. When I asked him if he will believe, right at that moment, he made an indication by two sounds. That was the only audible response received from Mr Tang throughout this period. There were two subsequent visitations made on Tuesday 17 September (2 hours) and Thursday 19 September (half hour) in which I could not hear any response although he moved his lips on some occasions attempting to speak. Mr Tang was discharged from the Sengkang General Hospital to return to the nursing home palliative care on Monday 23 September. On Tuesday 24 September, a visitation was made to the nursing home where I could see Mr Tang opening his eyes, he looked quite alert, although he could not speak. He was running a fever.

It was decided with the family of Jonathan that I would visit him on Thursday 26 September for his baptism. Mdm. Peh, Jonathan’s mother, will be there at the nursing home to witness the baptism. The church prayed on Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting (25 September).

Thank God for the blessed occasion on Thursday 26 September of Mr Tang Kok Kwan’s baptism witnessed by his wife Mdm. Peh.

Please pray for the family of Jonathan Tang during this time of need that God will strengthen and keep them.

Gospel Rally 2019

Thank God for our gospel rally held on the Lord’s Day of 15 September. The theme of the Gospel Rally was “Peace with God” based on Romans 5:1 and John 14:27.

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

We had 2 new visitors, one was a professed believer who no longer comes to church, we encouraged her to come again. Another was a non-believer whom we had the opportunity to share with her the gospel.

There were three others who came for the Gospel Rally, the mother Mdm. Kwan, aunt Kelly and son Horatio of the late Maisy Kok who went home to be with the Lord on 24 July 2019. They have confessed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and we are preparing them for baptism, God willing, after they have completed the Basic Bible Knowledge Class. Do pray that the Lord will grant them His grace to strengthen them. Amen.

Yours lovingly,

Pastor Lek Aik Wee
