2 Corinthian 5:1-2; Our House From Heaven

2 Corinthians 5:1-2 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

Our present body is weak and vulnerable, susceptible to harm and pain. One family member remarked of his elderly father that he has an abrasion on the skin by a slight brush with the bed frame that is not healing well. The skin peels easily in the weakness of the body that comes with passing time. But he is trusting in Jesus Christ daily awaiting his transformation when our Lord will re-make for each one of His children a new body.

This incorruptible, glorified body is a future reality for us because Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead two thousand years ago as the first fruit. We will follow after Him as God has promised in His Word. Although the people of God may groan by reason of physical weaknesses, we can look forward to receiving our house from heaven, a new body that will be given us at the rapture of the church.

We look forward to that day of glory. In fact, all creation look forward to that day of release from the bondage of this cursed world as a result of sin. In this, we have a lively hope, a strength within us to endure the pain of this mortal, temporal existence looking to the eternal transformation to come. May the Lord bless us with faith to take hold of the promise of God’s forever written Word receiving in our hearts comfort, peace and joy. Amen.
