Lord’s Day, Vol. 6 No. 39

Two Souls Saved – Its sequel

In our pastoral weekly on 4 February 2018, there was a testimony entitled “Two Souls Saved”. This is the extract: “Two friends, Lily and Jimmy who came to our 4th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service shared that their close relative was at the hospital stricken with colon cancer. He has professed faith when a Korean pastor visited him last week. She requested for a visitation to be made to confirm the man’s faith. I was asked to contact his son, Mr Chan Hong Kiat.

A visitation was arranged with Hong Kiat at 2 pm on Monday, 29 January to visit his father at Alexander Hospital. Mr Chan Choong Shoung, Hong Kiat’s father, listened to the gospel message spoken to him in Mandarin. His wife was there with him by the bedside. By the grace of God, Mr Chan received the Lord Jesus Christ. When asked to affirm his new-found faith with his wife and son, he did so. Mr Chan was invited to attend our inaugural Mandarin service on 4 February as he was scheduled to be discharged on 1 February. On Wednesday 31 January, at the request of Hong Kiat, another visitation was made together with Tong Seng and Siew Choy where we sang John Sung choruses together. Mr Chan was rejoicing in the Lord.

On Thursday morning, I received a call from Mr Chan’s son, Hong Kiat. His father has just been taken home. It was a shock to the family. Praise the Lord that his father has come to the Lord. A great relief for Hong Kiat. At the hospital, Mrs Chan was given the gospel message and she confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

The family agreed that Mr Chan would be buried at the Choa Chu Kang Christian Cemetery. There were two nights of vigil services where the gospel was requested to be preached in Mandarin to loved ones and friends from the Buddhist association in which he was the leader. The funeral was held on 3 February at 2.30 pm. Thank God for good weather and for His sustaining grace last week. As this weekly is written, prayer was made that Mrs Chan may come for our inaugural Mandarin Service.”

Mrs Chan did attend our inaugural Mandarin Service on 4 February. That was thirty-four weeks ago. God has led her removed the idols in her home.

We began a bible study at Mrs. Chan’s home on Thursday evenings singing John Sung choruses, studying from 66 Pocket Prayers and reading the Scriptures.

The question was asked to Mrs. Chan if she would like to be baptized in obedience to Christ’s command (Matthew 28:19). Her response was “yes”. We began studying the Scriptures together to prepare for her baptism.

This is the translation of Mrs. Chan’s testimony:

“It was in the last few days when my husband Chan Choong Shoung was alive that he received Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. I also under these circumstances was influenced to receive Jesus Christ, as my Lord and Saviour.

During this time, I came into contact with many brothers and sisters in Christ who loved and cared for me that touched my heart. I was especially touched by pastor Lek’s care, picking and sending me to and from church, explaining the teachings of the Bible, singing hymns, so that within a short period of time, I could understand the precious knowledge of the Christian faith. I am very grateful to all of you.

I felt that we should all wholeheartedly and sincerely call on the Lord in prayer, in whatever matters whether good or evil, to let the Lord know, and seek His help in times of need.”

This is Mrs. Chan’s Mandarin testimony as a record for us.

The sequel to our story is that Sister Lily who has first requested our visitation to Mr. Chan shared the gospel to Mrs. Chan’s helper – Marianne Diampoc using a tract.

Marianne received the Lord and has been following Mrs. Chan to our Mandarin Service. Last Thursday, we have begun Basic Bible Knowledge class preparing her for baptism. All praise and glory to our great God! Please pray for Marianne as she prepares to confess the Lord in baptism later this year. Amen.

Yours lovingly,

Pastor Lek Aik Wee
