1 Corinthians 15:26, The Last Enemy

1 Corinthians 15:26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

The Apostle Paul described death as the last enemy that shall be destroyed with the resurrection of the dead in the consummation of the age. Death has been the greatest impasse for mortal men since the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Death was first defeated at the cross when Jesus Christ suffered and died for the sins of men and rose from the dead three days later.

Since then, ever since the fall, all man dies. But a time is coming when the dead in Christ shall rise, given a new glorious, immortal body. This is the meaning of the statement given in this verse. The victory over death is a reality because of what Jesus Christ has done. And the consummation of the age will come at the return of Jesus Christ to receive the church to glory.

This is the believers’ blessed hope. And this we received by faith to the blessing of our hearts in the face of impending death. May the truth comfort our hearts. Amen.
