1 Corinthians 14:17-19, Speak Five Words With Understanding

1 Corinthians 14:17-19 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified. I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

The English Reformer William Tyndale resolved when he said to a clergyman, “… I will cause the boy that driveth the plow to know more of the Scriptures than thou dost!” In his lifetime, he translated the Bible into the language of the English people, so that the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ and eternal life in heaven is made known to his people even after his death by execution.

At the gallows, it was recorded the scene on 6 October 1536, “Tyndale stood immovable, his keen eyes gazing toward the common people. A silence fell over the crowd as they watched the prisoner’s lean form and thin, tired face; his lips moved with a final impassioned prayer that echoed around the place of execution: “Lord, open the king of England’s eyes.””

The English Bible was placed in the hands of the English people after his death bringing salvation to many in England. Indeed, God’s Word is mighty to save when read and understood. Thank God for the English Bible that revealed Jesus Christ to us. Amen.
