1 Corinthians 13:7, Charity Endureth All Things (1)

1 Corinthians 13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

The action word “to endure” consists of the preposition “under” and the verb “to remain”. “To remain under” is to persevere, to endure, to bear up under. It describes the biblical grace to suffer a load of miseries, adversities, persecutions or provocations with faith. It is a word of godly response. It is a military term that describes the holding of a position at all costs (MacArthur). God’s love does not buckle whatever the circumstances.

Whatever the storm may be in life, such love refuses to lose heart, falter, it does not stop loving. This is the capstone of Christ-likeness. It is not idealistic but a very realistic disposition of a child of God. This Christian life is a supernatural life. It enabled Peter to walk on the water when he focused on his Lord and caused him to sink when he took his eyes off Him.

Our Lord Jesus sets us the example par excellence. He endured all to go to the cross, to be crucified, mocked, scourged and finally to die because Jesus is fully man yet fully God to provide man with a visual aid of biblical love in action. His endurance was not in vain for three days after Jesus died, He rose again from the dead victorious. Amen.
