1 Corinthians 10:22, Provoke the Lord to Jealousy

1 Corinthians 10:22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

In this generation where entertainment and pleasure-seeking are so much a part of the everyday lifestyle, can the people of God hold fast to follow the Lord in the ways of holiness? Inadvertently, believers come under great pressure to conform to the world. How can the believer remain faithful to his Lord and not incur God’s wrath by any friendship with the world?

John Wesley’s mother gave this advice to his son when she once wrote to him whilst he was in college, “Would you be judge of the lawfulness or the unlawfulness of a pleasure, use this rule: Whatever weakens your reason, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, or takes off the relish of spiritual things; whatever increases the authority of your body over your mind, that thing, to you, is sin.” [J. H. Bomberger]¹

May the fear of God be in the hearts of His people that they may choose not to displease Him and incur His wrath. Can we stronger than God to resist His displeasure and chastisement? Certainly not! Let His people live circumspectly. Amen.
