1 Corinthians 9:25, An Incorruptible

1 Corinthians 9:25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

The promise of eternal reward for the faithful Christian is his motivation to serve Christ. Just as the athlete who seeks to wins a competition does all he can to keep himself in his best physical state, so the Christian in his spiritual state, for a heavenly reward.

Our Lord’s commendation is given in Matthew 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

An athlete sustains an injury can be out of the competition, so the Christian who sins against God faces the chastisement of God and a loss of reward. As such, the athlete is careful to protect himself from injury by being watchful over all aspects of his preparation and conditioning. So the Christian, he has to be clean vessel to be fit for the Master’s use.

May the Lord bless the Christian with His grace of good self-discipline. Amen.
