1 Corinthians 9:2, Seal of Apostleship

1 Corinthians 9:2 If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.

The Apostle Paul reasoned with the church in Corinth that he was sent by Jesus Christ to preach the gospel to them. The fact that they are in the Lord attest his apostleship. God’s grace came upon them to open their hearts and to save them. Why did he have to speak thus? Because the believers in Corinth were resisting to amend their ways according to the counsel that the Apostle Paul was giving to them. Instead, they have chosen to undermine his authority by raising in question his God-given mandate, for their spiritual welfare.

When spiritual weaknesses are pointed out in the previous chapters, they were done in order that God’s people might make progress in their spiritual life. By failing to take heed and worse to find fault with the Apostle Paul was most uncalled for. He, therefore, writes to help them to see that his letter to them was truly for their good. We know how he had suffered in order that the gospel might be brought to the church in Corinth. There were many oppositions to the stop the advances of the gospel. Yet, God’s truth and His spirit prevailed to establish the church in Corinth.

All praise and thanks to God for raising up men to care for God’s flock. Amen.
