1 Corinthians 7:26-28, Trusting God Through Your Trials

1 Corinthians 7:26-28 I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be. 27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife. 28 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.

The Apostle Paul warns of a coming wave of persecution that the believers in Corinth shall experience. For those who are single, they suffer alone. But for those who are married their wife and children will suffer with them. He ask that consideration be made in view of what is to come.

The choice is left to the individual. If he chooses to get married, such a one must be prepared for the suffering to come. There is no judgment against the marriage. There is no indictment of sin should one choose to marry. One can be under great affliction and yet experienced God’s peace and joy during those trying times. Though a marriage may be sorely tested during times of persecution (described here as having trouble in the flesh), the married couple should persevere to honour the marriage covenant and trust God to help them through the trial.

May God be merciful to strengthen His individuals and families undergoing affliction. Amen.
