1 Corinthians 6:15-17, Joined Unto the Lord

1 Corinthians 6:15-17 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

The believer is to possess his body in honour by abstaining and fleeing any form of immorality. He is joined in one spirit with the Lord. In him dwells the Spirit of Christ. When the believer commits immorality outside marriage, he sins against Christ who is joined to him.

Burkitt observed insightfully, “How closely and intimately believers are united unto Jesus Christ: they are nearer than one flesh; they are one spirit with him, they have both one Father, one house, one home, one heart, one interest, one acquaintance. Happy they who are thus joined to the Lord, for they are one spirit.”

In fact, joining with Christ brings countless moment by moment blessings to the believer. What should he forfeit this great privilege by joining himself with that which Christ abhors?

May God’s people be fully persuaded of their blessed status in Christ. Amen.
