1 Corinthians 6:11, Ye Are Sanctified!

1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

The Apostle Paul reminds the Corinthian Christians that they have been made holy through Jesus Christ. The words “washed” and “sanctified” and “justified” speaks of the process of spiritual regeneration. You are now a spiritual man having being washed from all your sins by the blood of Jesus Christ. As such, you are positionally holy in the sight of God. Your violation of God’s law has be nullified, it is no longer held against you. In other words, he tells them that God has saved them from their sins. Their behaviour must be befitting of their privileged as God’s children. He reminds them how far they have come by the rich mercies of God and exhorts them to not go back to their old ways.

It is well articulated in Ephesians 2:1-5 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) Do not take for granted the bestowing of God’s favour upon you by going back to the sinful old ways.

May God’s people always look to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Amen.
