1 Corinthians 3:12-15, Abiding Work

1 Corinthians 3:12-15 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. 14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

There is only one way by which man can be saved. It is faith in Jesus Christ. This is the sure foundation that will stand the severest test. The only true foundation in which we receive spiritual life and the perpetual sustenance of it. This is the message of the gospel that the Apostle Paul preached, the same message we learn to preach.

The Apostle Paul rightly pronounce a curse on those who deliberately preach another gospel that does not save –  Galatians 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. How cruel to do that makes a difference between heaven and hell.

Preaching the true gospel is to build on gold, silver and precious stone, able to withstand the test of fire. Whereas the false gospel that attacks the Person of Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection three days later is likened to a shaky foundation built upon wood, hay and stubble, unable to withstand the test of fire. Thank God for the Bible that gives us the way of salvation Jesus Christ. May we be faithful to proclaim it. Amen.
