Lord’s Day, Vol. 4 No. 28

(1) The Fragility of Life

James 4:13-16 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

I heard a loud bang and went to the window in my living room. I looked down and saw a lady in a colourful dress lying on the road, face up, a stationary car parked near her.

I surmised the car must have hit the lady and quickly called the police to request for help. I knelt and prayed for God’s mercy upon the injured lady. The ambulance arrived shortly and sent the injured lady to the hospital. There was a pool of blood at the place where the lady laid. Nearby, there was a broken piece of the car’s side mirror on the road.

I reflected upon the frailty of human life. Life is just so fragile. I do not know how the traffic accident will change the lady’s life. But it certainly would not be the same again for her.

Perhaps the lady was on her way for an appointment or to work. She did not make it to her planned destination that day. Our lives are in God’s hand. Indeed, only if the Lord will, we shall live, and do this or that (James 4:15).

It was a sobering scene. It makes one cherish the life we have, the time we have with our loved ones. Life is “even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and vanisheth away.” How true are the words of Scripture.

As children of God, we are to trust Him to protect us. Psalm 121:8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” We commit our lives and those of our loved ones to His unfailing care! Amen.

(2) Tracting Ministry

Romans 10:13,15 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved… And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Thank God for the beginning of our tracting ministry last Lord’s Day when a team of our members led by brother Patrick Tan gave out tracts and invitations to passers-by outside the church. The tracting team meets on the 1st and 3rd week of each month at 1.40pm. I invite you to join the team to reach out with the gospel to the neighbourhood. One of our sisters-in-Christ prepared 30 copies of her testimony and gave them out during the tracting session together with the tracts and invitation cards. She invited those she met to come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour. She testified how her relationship with Jesus Christ has brought peace and joy to her heart. May the gospel seed sown bear fruit in His time.
