Romans 9:27, Be a Good Ambassador for the Lord

Romans 9:27 (KJV) 27  Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

The Apostle Paul is citing the prophet Isaiah’s prediction in Isaiah 10:22 of God’s judgement upon Israel by the Babylonians because her sins. However, God will preserve for Himself a faithful remnant though Israel was a great multitude. By quoting this text, he is calling attention to the parallel that among the Jews of Jesus’ day, many rejected Him but there is a remnant who received Him. Truly, Jerusalem was destroyed by the Roman army and the Jews scattered in A.D. 70.

It is amazing to observe the hardness in the heart of the Jews living during Jesus’ time. They had seen the Lord and were personally taught by Him and He healed and succored them in their distress and He was hurled to be crucified.

Extrapolating, in the gospel age, though the nation of Israel may be numerous today, there is only a small number will accepts Jesus Christ as their Messiah. A reality in modern Israel. The Apostle Paul is making a contrast that God sovereignly saves whom He will. He cited God’s mercy coming upon the Gentiles undeserving as they are, many are saved.

May we be good ambassadors for the Lord to share the gospel with both Jew and Gentile that some, by the mercy of God, might be saved. Amen.
