Romans 8:23, Redemption of the Body

Romans 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

Believers are the “firstfruits of the Spirit” in that the Holy Spirit indwells all who adopted into the family of God giving them the power to overcome sin. The believer can choose to yield to temptation and thus sin against God. The groaning that the Apostle Paul speaks of is the weariness that comes with that constant struggle. Satan and the world will continue to seduce the believer to their fallen ways. Each time the believer falls, he pays a price for the consequence of sin.

The struggle against sin, for the believer living in the flesh, will end when Christ returns to bring His church to glory at the rapture. At that time, all believers dead and alive will be clothed with an incorruptible body that is free from the filth of sin. It will be a glorious day. And that day is fast approaching. Christ’s second coming is imminent. He can come anytime. May we be ready to be ushered to our heavenly home.

For every believer seeking to live in holiness before God and men, this is the encouraging word from the Lord Jesus in John 14:1-3, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”  Amen.
