Romans 3:30-31, One God and One Way of Salvation

Romans 3:30-31 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. 31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Whether Jew or Gentile, the one living and true God provided only one way of salvation for us all. It is by faith in Jesus Christ. No need for any outward circumcision. Thank God for the propagation of this gospel message far and wide from Jerusalem to all Judaea, and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth. It is in the last hundred years that the gospel came to the Chinese people and parts of Asia as a result of missionary endeavours from the West. It has been that same message of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to Scripture alone and for God’s glory alone! Salvation does not come by being able to keep the law. Rather, the law shows us our inability to keep it perfectly and how we are guilty of breaking it and thus culpable. God’s judgement for breaking the law is death and eternal condemnation in hell fire. Very gloomy prospect. But Christ kept the law perfectly on our behalf and by His death on our behalf, we received pardon for our sins. The law of God is by no means nullified but show us our inability to keep it and thus bring us to come to Jesus Christ for salvation. But the law helps us to see our sinfulness. It is God’s provision to speed us along the path of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

For my family, it was only in the last 25 years that we turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God. Not all members of the family although there are no longer idols in the home. It was indeed a great deliverance that we experienced by the great mercy of God. God visited my family with the conversion of my mother and more recently my maternal grandmother. For my mother who rose up early for 30 years to pray to these idols found no true peace and joy until she received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour. And we are praying that other members of the family find salvation in Jesus Christ. In particular, my father and sisters and parents-in-law and my wife’s siblings.

What about your family? May we uphold one another in prayer as we endeavour to give the gospel to our loved ones. Amen.
