Romans 3:9-12, None Righteous, No, Not One!

Romans 3:9-12 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

The Apostle Paul quoted the psalmist’s declaration of the sad plight of fallen man in  Psalm 14:2-3 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. 3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

A sad truth, a honest assignment of man’s fallen state, a declaration of his utter depravity and his need of a true Saviour. Man has three problems he cannot solve. It is sin, sorrow and death. Ask any one to analyse man and his life and you will come to this conclusion. Of sin, we see this world plagued by hatred and violence. The British author, John Blanchard, recorded for our learning that out of the past 4000 years there have been less than 300 without a major war. “Peace”, one pastor puts it well, “is merely that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stops to reload.”

The Apostle Paul truthfully concluded that man’s wisdom is at best lacking – he “is gone out of the way”. And making for himself an identity outside his Creator is simply impossible. Can the clay say to the potter how it is to be shaped? Impossible.

I came to this realisation during 2nd year in the university. There is that emptiness in me that cannot be filled, there is an inadequacy in me that I cannot explain. When I was given the gospel of Jesus Christ, suddenly the jig-saw puzzle of life became whole. I found my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my purpose of life in Him. Amen.

What a wonderful Saviour

Jesus Christ my Lord

What a wonderful Saviour

from sin He set me free

I will praise Him forever

Faithful to death I’ll be

What a wonderful Saviour

Jesus is to me.
