Romans 3:1-3, Faith Amidst Unbelief

Romans 3:1-3 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? 2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. 3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

How is it possible that some Jews remain in a state of unbelief having received so much of God’s truth and revelation? Do their unbelief not tell us that God’s Word is powerless to save? God forbid that we think so foolishly, the Apostle Paul chides. Is it then pointless for God to have committed the Scriptures to the Jews when so many still persist in unbelief? No! God’s hand is not shortened that He cannot save. Rather, the unbelief of men show the depth of his depravity and the deceitfulness of sin. One generation of men perished in the wilderness after the Exodus from Egypt when they refused to enter the land because of their unbelief. God raised another generation whom He will use to accomplish His purpose. His purpose cannot be thwarted! God is not handicapped because men refused to cooperate to do His will.

Do not be discouraged if you see so many in the congregation who are contented to be Sunday Christians. So many living contented with no burden for lost souls! So many who will have no burden to pray for others or even for themselves. Be not discouraged! God will still accomplish His salvation work despite gross human failures and debaucheries. May you be that faithful one who will not live in unbelief but be on fire for the Lord! Amen.
