Romans 2:4, Repent before Its Too Late!

Romans 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? 5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

God is good to allow time for sinners to repent of their sins by delaying His judgement. When a man sins without restrain and think that he can get away with sin time and again, he is hereby warned. Judgement will surely come. God has withheld judgement so that he may have the opportunity to be awakened of his grave danger and quickly repent!

Jonathan Edwards in his sermon “Sinners in the hands of an angry God” depicted the precarious state of men in rebellion against God. He painted the picture of one who is held by a thin thread and below him is the cauldron of burning fire awaiting to devour him in judgement!

Jesus described a certain rich man in Luke 16:19 who died without Christ and found his soul in the torments of hell fire. He was in utter regret when he sought help to escape the torments of hell but to no avail. He was told that there is a chasm, a great gulf fixed, a impassable divide between heaven and hell, as a final abode for the departed soul of man. A man in hell cannot go to heaven and vice versa at the point of death.

Do not treat with scornful contempt God’s delay in judging your habitual sin. It is not an impetuous to sin rather a time for soul searching that would hopefully lead to repentance. These are hard statements of truth that the Apostle Paul found it necessary to write. He did so with the loving purpose of restoring the repentant. There is forgiveness to the penitent heart. May God help us to repent of any known sin in our lives before its too late. When we come before God to confess our sins, we receive forgiveness. As the John Sung chorus goes, “Jesus breaks every fetter, Jesus breaks every fetter, Jesus breaks every fetter, Jesus sets me free. I will sing “Hallelujah”, I will sing “Hallelujah”, I will sing “Hallelujah”, Christ has set me free.” Amen.
