Romans 2:1-3, Needful Self-Examination

Romans 2:1-3 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. 2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. 3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

The Apostle Paul now turns his attention to give an indictment to jolt the reader to self-examination, more specifically those who pass judgement against another. The gentiles were guilty of the gross sins that were pronounced against them. They were without excuse. “This man” refers to “whosoever…that judgest“. He who points a finger at others, is he not himself guilty? God is perfectly just in His assessment of the plight of fallen men. He judges in truth, without partiality. He jolts us to look into our own lives. Indeed, there is none righteous, all guilty before God.

Men who sinned against God and is unrepentant is indeed awaiting a sure judgement from our an All-seeing, All-knowing and All-powerful God!

Truly, Jesus gave the Christian disposition as one who has a poverty of spirit and one who mourns for his sins. This is the beginning of salvation grace when men are willing to humble themselves and repent of their sins and come to Jesus Christ for cleansing. There is only one way that man can have their sins forgiven. In the blood of the Lamb!

The Bible described Job as a man who was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and hates evil. He was not sinless but daily he arose early to commune with God seeking God’s favour and finding forgiveness in confession, finding peace and joy with God in his daily communion before God. The Bible tells us that in  1 John 1:9-10 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

May the Lord lead us to come before Him in self-examination and find healing with God. Amen.
