Romans 1:26-27, Abomination in God’s Sight

Romans 1:26-27 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

Fallen men not only sidelined their Creator by worshipping dumb idols made with their own hands, but their mind become so twisted that the institution of marriage between a man and a woman that God has ordained since time immemorial was overturned. Such shameful passions of utmost perverseness was made a way of life. When such inordinate affections took place, we see in biblical history that God’s judgement was nigh. Sodom and Gomorrah were cities that God judged with fire and brimestones falling from heaven to completely consume these cities.

Today, we see the overturning of state laws in many western nations to legalise gay and lesbian marriages. This end-time tide of of a global Sodom and Gomorrah seemed unstoppable. God’s law condemns such shameful passions.

Leviticus 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

It was an offence punishable by death in God’s law because it is an abomination in God’s sight. Again, we see God’s permissive will when men and women choose to disobey God’s clear instruction as they burned in their lust one toward another. Lot and his family stayed in Sodom and had their souls vexed by the gross immorality happening there. Peter wrote how believers would be badly affected by such wanton lifestyle.

2 Peter 2:7-8 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

It therefore would incur God’s wrath! It is predicted by our Lord that the days prior His Second Coming would be like the days of Lot. Indeed, with the recent legalising of same sex marriage in the US, we see that God’s judgement is nigh.

Luke 17:28-30 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

May God keep us pure and unspotted like Abraham and help us to pray for God’s mercy upon His people who may be entangled directly or indirectly in such vile affections. Amen.
