Romans 1:1, The Unfinished Gospel Mission

Romans 1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

Paul was a man chosen by God to bring forth everlasting fruit in ushering men and women into God’s eternal kingdom. Paul’s calling like prophet Jeremiah’s was part of God’s eternal plan of redemption conceived before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4).

Jeremiah testified: Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

God had a hand in shaping our lives to fulfil His perfect will. It is no accident that you came to acknowledge Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and you are who you are. It was God’s good plan for your life. It was no accident that Paul was taught the excellent  knowledge of the Old Testament Scriptures by the renowned Jewish master Gamaliel and was born a Roman citizen. It was God’s divine endowment upon this man of God to accomplish His purpose. He testified in Acts 22:3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

During the momentous life-transforming personal encounter Paul had with the risen Christ on the road to Damascus, he was gloriously saved. He acknowledged Jesus as Saviour and Lord when he was healed of blindness three days after his encounter with Christ by a bright light from heaven. He received spiritual sight and physical sight.

The jig saw puzzle of God’s revelation in the Old Testament finds its fullness in the heart and mind of Paul when he understood by the illumination of the Holy Spirit that Jesus is the Christ. Moreover, he was privileged to see, first hand, the splendour of heaven (2 Corinthians 12:2-5).

Heaven is real. This was the good news that he was called by God to proclaim. There is an escape from judgment in hell fire through faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ on the cross as Paul testified – it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27).

God has saved you in Christ Jesus. He has also a work for you to be His witness in this last days. Will you serve Him?
