Lord’s Day, Vol. 3 No. 33

(1) Gospel Rally

God willing, we would have our first gospel rally on 30 August 2015 during the Lord’s Day Service. The message is “If a man die, shall he live again?” (Job 14:14).

This would be a great opportunity to reach out to our unsaved loved ones and friends. Do invite them to church and pray for God’s grace to prepare their heart to receive the gospel. May the Lord be praised, His name proclaimed and souls saved!

(2) Christ’s Reign on Earth

Psalm 110 is a messianic psalm. Verse 1 of Psalm 110 was quoted in Matthew 22:42-45; Mark 12:35-37; Luke 20:41-44.

(a) As King

A Psalm of David. 1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. 2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. 3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.

Jesus as the son of David and yet reign as David’s Lord. This is only possible because Jesus, has a kingly heritage from David’s lineage as a man (Matt. 1:1, 6, 16), is also God incarnate (John 1:1, 14), and by His resurrection and ascension, is exalted to sit at the right hand of God the Father.

Jesus declared that He is the root and offspring of David (Rev. 22:16). He is soon coming to set up His millennia kingdom upon earth (Rev. 20:4-6; 2 Sam. 7; Dan. 2:44-45; 7:22, 27). Jesus would rule with all power from Jerusalem (Zion) as the undisputed King (Zech. 14:9). The nations of the world will come in great number to pay tribute to Him in holiness (Isa. 2:2-3) according to Christ’s instruction.

Isaiah 2:2-3 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

For every war and conflict that arises among nations since time immemorial, is for sovereignty over earthly possessions or due to hunger. True peace will only come to this troubled world when the Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6) rules.

(b) As Priest

4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Jesus is not only King but performs the priestly function like Melchizedek, the king of Salem whom Abraham gave tithe. Melchizedek was a priest-king in Salem, later named Jerusalem (Gen. 14:20).

Why is Jesus called Priest? He took our sins, saves us from the judgment of hell and intercedes for us at the right hand of the Father till we safely arrive in heaven.

“…when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.” (Heb. 1:3).

Hebrews 7:21-25 explains, “(For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:) By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

(c) As Judge

5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. 6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries. 7 He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.

The rebellious nations of the world will be defeated at Christ’s second coming (Rev. 19:11-16). All rebellion will be quelled by plagues and withholding of rain (Zech. 14:17-18). Christ will set up His rule on earth for 1000 years (Rev. 20:4-6) and judge the nations with justice and equity as foretold in Isaiah 2:4, “And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Every born-again child of God, will reign with Christ, as kings and priests.

Revelation 5:9-10 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou…hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

The day is coming. May His church be ready!

Yours lovingly,
