Lord’s Day, Vol. 3 No. 2

(1) Thanksgiving and Rejoicing

Psalm 118:1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.

We remember God’s goodness and His grace as we commemorate Blessed Hope Bible-Presbyterian Church’s (BHBPC) First Anniversary.

The psalmist says in Psalm 100:4 “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”

This is a picture of worship in ancient Israel. The people of God would enter the gates of Jerusalem and into the temple to present thanksgiving offerings.

Likewise, we come before Him with grateful hearts and acknowledge all that He hath done.

Psalm 100:5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Indeed, the Lord is good. He has been our Guide. We renew our faith and trust in Him, rejoicing in His love and His truth.

On this blessed day, we are reminded of the objects for which BHBPC is established (Article 3 of the constitution):

3.1 The salvation of souls;

3.2 The edification of Christians through the teaching of God’s Word;

 3.3 The promotion of godly and biblical worship;

3.4 The defence of “the faith which was once delivered unto the saints”;

3.5 The establishment and extension of Christian missions and institutions for the furtherance of God’s Kingdom on earth;

3.6 The promotion of Christian relief for the poor and needy;

 3.7 The strengthening of mutual fellowship, encouragement and unity among individual Bible-Presbyterian Churches and other Bible-believing churches of similar stand “for the Word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Rev. 1:9).

3.8 The Church shall not engage in activities that may undermine the racial or religious harmony in Singapore.”

The doctrines on Bible inspiration, preservation and translation are found in Article 4 of the constitution:

4.2      In abbreviated form, the chief tenets of the doctrine of the Church, apart from the Apostles’ Creed, shall be as follows:

4.2.1.1 We believe in the divine, Verbal Plenary Inspiration (Autographs) and Verbal Plenary Preservation (Apographs) of the       Scriptures in the original languages, their consequent inerrancy and infallibility, and as the perfect Word of God, the Supreme and final authority in faith and life (2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet 1:20-21; Ps 12:6-7; Matt 5:18, 24:35);

 4.2.1.2 We believe the Hebrew Old Testament and the Greek New Testament underlying the Authorised (King James) Version to be the very Word of God, infallible and inerrant;

 4.2.1.3 We uphold the Authorised (King James) Version to be the Word of God – the best, most faithful, most accurate, most beautiful translation of the Bible in the English language, and do employ it alone as our primary scriptural text in the public reading, preaching, and teaching of the English Bible;

May the LORD establish BHBPC as His faithful witness. We also pray that His people will be holy and serve Him with love and purity of heart, to His praise and glory!

Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen.

(2) Youth Fellowship

Thank God for the first Youth Fellowship meeting on Saturday 3 January 2015. The message was “What the Bible says about Friends and Relationships” taken from Proverbs 17:17 – “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity”.

The next meeting is on 17 January 2015 (Saturday) at the Praise Chapel from 3pm to 5pm. Meetings are mainly scheduled on the first and third Saturdays of each month. We encourage our youths to come for a time of study of God’s word, prayer and fellowship.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Yours lovingly in Christ,

Ps. Lek Aik Wee
