Acceptance of the Call to be Pastor

On 9 November 2014, members of Blessed Hope Bible-Presbyterian Church (BHBPC) gathered for a congregational meeting after worship service, to call Preacher Lek Aik Wee as the Pastor of BHBPC, in accordance with the terms set forth in the Bible-Presbyterian Form of Government chapter XIV item 1-7.

Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Khoo and Rev. Dr. Tow Siang Hwa have earlier advised for the call of members to be the proper order in light of the dissolution of the Bible-Presbyterian synod.

The meeting was presided by Rev. Dr. Tow Siang Hwa, Senior Pastor of Calvary Pandan Bible-Presbyterian Church.

Rev. Dr. Tow Siang Hwa read from 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and proceeded to read the Statement of Call which was printed in last week’s BHBPC newsletter and the document to be signed by members.

There are 30 members who are 21 and above in BHBPC. 27 were present. All 27 members unanimously signed on the document. The 3 absentee members have also signed for the call on separate occasions. Rev. Dr. Tow Siang Hwa and Elder Paul Tsao signed as witnesses to the members’ call.

We thank God for the leading of the Holy Spirit through membership and ordained leadership of the Bible-Presbyterian Church in accordance with the principles of the Holy Scriptures.

The Bible-Presbyterian Form of Government chapter XIV item 8 reads as follows:

“When a call shall be presented to any minister or candidate, it shall always be viewed as a sufficient petition from the people for his installation.

The acceptance of a call, by a minister or candidate, shall always be considered as a request, on his part, to be installed at the same time.

And when a candidate shall be ordained in consequence of a call from any congregation, the presbytery shall, at the same time, if practicable, install him as pastor of that congregation.”

Preacher Lek has formally accepted the call by members of BHBPC to be their pastor. A letter of confirmation was written to Rev. Dr. Tow Siang Hwa on 13 November 2014 to express his acceptance.

The letter also included a formal request to expedite the ordination of Pastor Lek Aik Wee in light of the principles found in the Holy Scriptures and the Bible-Presbyterian Form of Church Government.

It is with much joy as we embark on this journey together, labouring for the Lord till He comes.

Titus 2:13-14 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

All praise, honour and glory to His name.

Yours lovingly in Christ,

Ps. Lek Aik Wee
