Hebrews 4:9-10 There Remaineth Therefore A Rest For The People Of God

Hebrews 4:9-10 (KJV) There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

When the gospel is preached, there are those that enter into salvation’s rest when they exercised faith in receiving the gospel. The finished work of Christ averts God’s wrath upon all who believe.

The believer’s rest like the finished work of Creation is rested upon completed work – the completed work of salvation through Christ and the completed work of Creation by the Godhead. This is the analogy given so that there is the completeness of rest that comes with a work completely finished.

There is no lingering incompleteness to the work of salvation as it was in the work of Creation. When Christ completed His work of redemption, He said, “It is finished”. In the perfect tense, this phrase means, the action completed and the result ensuing from it is an enduring one. So is the creation of the world. Amen.
