John 16:33 Be Of Good Cheer, I Have Overcome The World

John 16:33 (KJV)  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Christ exhorts His disciples to abide in Him for with Him, they can do nothing. He is the Vine and they are the branches.

In Christ, there is true rest. He gives to His own peace, reconciliation with the Father through His atoning work. This peace permeates in the believer’s life as he abides in Him, appropriating His wisdom and strength.

Though the world may press the believer to the breaking point, that is the meaning of the word “tribulation”. It will not break him because Christ has overcome the world on his behalf. All praise to Him. Amen.
