1 Peter 5:8-9 Because Your Adversary The Devil

1 Peter 5:8-9 (KJV)  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:  9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

The believer has a fierce adversary, the devil, prowling and preying. He must be very alert and always on guard so that he may not fall into the snare and trap of the evil one.

He can have victory by resisting steadfast though it means great affliction as Christ was tested in the wilderness being an hungered forty days and 40 nights. Christ repelled the devils temptation with appropriate God’s Word.

Thus the believer may take comfort that this testing is not faced by him alone but other believers too are tried. The cloud of witnesses who has overcome rejoiced with the believer in his present trial to persevere. Amen.
