1 Peter 5:8-9 Be Sober and Be Vigilant
1 Peter 5:8-9 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
There is an imperative need for the Christian to be alert and awake, sober and vigilant. Not drunken and slack.
The Christ’s adversary is the devil, who like a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. A misstep, the Christian falls prey to the wiles of the devil.
He is to resist steadfast in the faith, stand his ground, even amidst affliction, knowing that you are in a great company of the faithfuls who have walked before you, encouraging you that it is possible to overcome and have victory over the devil. Amen.
