Colossians 2:13-14 Blotting Out The Handwriting of Ordinances That Was Against Us

Colossians 2:13-14 (KJV)  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Before we come to Christ, we were dead in trespasses. As a result of our sins, we were spiritually alienated from God, we were spiritually dead.

Living unrestrainedly to the flesh with its lust until we heard the gospel and believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and thus by the mercy of God, saved.

The handwriting of ordinances refer to the law as summarised in the Ten Commandments. By Christ’s death on the cross, He, our behalf, endured the curse of the law.

Because Christ resurrected from the dead and dealt sin with a death blow, so do we having been made spiritually alive through Christ with our sins forgiven. Amen.
