Lord’s Day, Vol. 13 No. 19
A Gospel for the World
God has only one plan to save the world. That is through His Son Jesus Christ, the God-Man, who entered human history through the virgin birth of a Jewish girl, Mary. The gospel began with the Jews. Jesus Christ, was of Jewish descent but traced to all the way to the first man Adam, the son of God, to affirm God’s remedy for sin since Adam’s fall – which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
Man, fearfully and wonderfully created by God, has lost his way and the Father in heaven sought to bring him back through His Son, Jesus the Christ, the Second Person of the Godhead, who entered human history through a virgin birth at the pivotal point, B.C. before Christ, and A.D. Anno Domini, the year of the Lord.
God orchestrated the greatest rescue plan in human history, this is the good news, to all man, that all man who hear the gospel might be saved.
Christ’s final words before His ascension to heaven was recorded at the end of the Gospel in Luke 24:44-47 to His disciples:
Luke 24:44-47 (KJV) And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. (Jesus affirmed the Old Testament Scriptures that it recorded His coming and that He has come to save sinners) 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
This is our purpose of preaching that the co-labouring of the Holy Ghost may illuminate our hearts and minds to understand and embrace the gospel.
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Jesus, whom the gospel writer Luke called, the Son of Man, to identify the Saviour as fully man and yet fully God able to forgive sins as affirmed in Luke 5:24 (KJV) But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
1 Timothy 3:16 (KJV) And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
While the Jews from the religiously leaders to the man in the street rejected their Messiah, their Christ, the One prophesied in the Old Testament Scriptures to save them from their sins, Jesus has chosen a small group of 12 or 11 disciples, one betrayed Him, the Apostles of Christ, a faithful remnant among predominantly unbelieving Jews, to affirm the truth that only Jesus saves, not only to the Jews but to the Gentile world.
That message has, therefore, been faithfully carried for the past two thousand years to reach our ears here in Singapore in the past 75 years through the Bible-Presbyterian Church in Singapore in which we affirm to be the true gospel most accurately recorded in the King James version of the English Bible and its underlying Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek text.
The Plan – God’s Grace Came Gloriously to Save Souls (1:1), The Person – Charged to Carry the Vital Gospel (1:2-3), The Purpose – Affirming Jesus Christ as the Only Saviour in the Gospel (1:4).
May the Lord grant understanding as the Gospel of Luke is opened in its verses for His glory to save souls and equip God’s people for the gospel work. Amen.
Yours lovingly,
Pastor Lek Aik Wee
