(1) 4th Anniversary Thanksgiving

Thank God for a blessed 4th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service on 28 January 2018. In this gathering, there are those whom the church has established a friendship by virtue of the gospel work and they came to rejoice with us. Loved ones and friends were gathered together to recall the goodness of God toward His people in the past 4 years.

Greetings from Rev Dr Tow Siang Hwa, our pastoral advisor, the man who by advice, aided us in the establishment of this local church. Dr Tow baptised 10 of our members. He preached here 10 times since the church began and administered the Lord’s Supper for the last time on September 2015.

He was with us on our 2nd Anniversary Thanksgiving Service in January 2016. Praise the Lord for the care of a senior leader of the church who for the propagation of the gospel helped to strengthen our hands establishing this outreach for the gospel. We thank the Lord for him and pray the Lord will keep and strengthen him daily.

The sermon was entitled “Now Thank We All Our God” based on the hymn No. 27 of the Revival Hymns and Choruses.

The congregation meditated on the Scripture text in 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father.”

  • The Church Persevering in Her Witness (v3)

(2) God Saved Two Souls

Two friends, Lily and Jimmy who came to our 4th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service shared that their close relative was at the hospital stricken with colon cancer. He has professed faith when a Korean pastor visited him last week. She requested for a visitation to be made to confirm the man’s faith. I was asked to contact his son, Mr Chan Hong Kiat.

A visitation was arranged with Hong Kiat at 2 pm on Monday, 29 January to visit his father at Alexander Hospital. Mr Chan Choong Shoung, Hong Kiat’s father, listened to the gospel message spoken to him in Mandarin. His wife was there with him by the bedside. By the grace of God, Mr Chan received the Lord Jesus Christ. When asked to affirm his new-found faith with his wife and son, he did so. Mr Chan was invited to attend our inaugural Mandarin service on 4 February as he was scheduled to be discharged on 1 February. On Wednesday 31 January, at the request of Hong Kiat, another visitation was made together with Tong Seng and Siew Choy where we sang John Sung choruses together. Mr Chan was rejoicing in the Lord.

On Thursday morning, I received a call from Mr Chan’s son, Hong Kiat. His father has just been taken home. It was a shock to the family. Praise the Lord that his father has come to the Lord. A great relief for Hong Kiat. At the hospital, Mrs Chan was given the gospel message and she confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

The family agreed that Mr Chan would be buried at the Choa Chu Kang Christian Cemetery. There were two nights of vigil services where the gospel was requested to be preached in Mandarin to loved ones and friends from the Buddhist association in which he was the leader. The funeral was held on 3 February 2.30pm. Thank God for good weather and for His sustaining grace last week. As this weekly is written, prayer was made that Mrs Chan may come for our inaugural Mandarin Service.
